LESSONS

I have been teaching guitar lessons professionally for over 12 years. I offer lessons one-on-one, or in groups, at my farm near Grenfell, Saskatchewan. I also offer long-distance lessons online via  Skype or video exchange.

Over the years I have taught a variety of students spanning all ages and skill levels. If you are passionate, dedicated, and a have a love for music, I am committed to helping you achieve your goal.

I specialize in Rock, Blues, and Fingerstyle guitar playing because these are the styles that I have spent the majority of my time studying and teaching. With that said, I do cover other popular styles such as Pop, Folk, Funk and Reggae.

Not only will we be learning your favourite songs, we will be focusing on the specific techniques utilized. We will analyze the theory behind the songs. In this way we can learn from many different angles and perspectives giving you a more well-rounded understanding of the song and the instrument as well as an understanding of how to craft your own songs.

Price:

I offer a few different lesson formats. The standard one hour/week lesson is $50 an hour, paid monthly. Forty-five minute lessons are $40. Half-hour lessons are $30.

Understand that, often, the cheapest teachers are not the best teachers. A quality teacher will have you learning at a much faster rate which will actually save you a lot of time, money and frustration in the long run.

Why take lessons?

Granted, there are a number of ways to learn the guitar. YouTube, tab sites and countless books with an abundance of information and instruction are out there. The problem I’ve found is that without a quality teacher you can easily become overwhelmed and distracted by an overabundance of information. This leads to bad habits and a lot of time wasted practicing information that you may not understand or which may have no relevance to who you are as a player. I know this because I have a lot of students who have been through it.

I am committed to understanding your challenges and giving you the guidance and encouragement that you need to progress as a player. I will provide you with weekly exercises and together we will set weekly goals so that you can continually improve with every lesson. I will also provide you with feedback and personalized instruction and show you how to effectively manage your practice time.

From experience I can say that a good guitar lesson could be the greatest source of inspiration when learning an instrument.

The best way to learn anything is to find someone who has not only spent a great deal of time acquiring the skills and knowledge which you desire, but has the teaching skills, training and experience to help you achieve your goals.
